ACT and ALS learners nominated for apprenticeship awards

Finalists for the prestigious Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2024 have been announced and a number of learners and partner employers have been recognised in the shortlist.

The Apprenticeship Awards Cymru takes place March 2024 and celebrates the contributions of individuals, providers and employers who have excelled in developing work-based learning throughout Wales.

Of the nine awards categories, learners from ACT, as well as its sister company ALS and their partners, have been nominated across six.

Amongst the finalists is ACT learner Jessica Williams who is up for Higher Apprentice of the Year.

Jessica has just completed her Level 5 Apprenticeship in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, Leadership and Management and, throughout, has shown an incredible commitment to her learning despite a tough few years.

Just as she began her work-based learning journey, Jessica was involved in a tragic accident that left her with a number of difficult challenges, including hearing impairment and speech issues, to overcome.

Despite this, she has excelled in her course and done everything she can to make her apprenticeship work for her.

ALS learner Laura Chapman is in the running for Apprentice of the Year.

Laura has been on a transformative apprenticeship journey since she was teenager. Now 21, she has completed three qualifications and is now on her fourth.

“For each qualification, I’ve been able to apply the learning directly to my role straight away,” explained Laura. “They go hand in hand, so it makes sense to continue learning. I’ve already set my sights on a Higher Apprenticeship in Management.”

Two ALS learners - Heledd Roberts and Katie Trembath - are finalists in the Tomorrow’s Talent category.

ALS Director, Sarah John, said: “ALS Training has been delivering high quality learning solutions for learners and employers for over 20 years, our commitment to improving lives through learning is demonstrated by the fantastic Apprenticeship Award finalists that ALS has supported.

“Congratulations to all of our finalists and good luck!”

PHS Group (Caerphilly) and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are up for Large Employer and Macro Employer of the Year respectively.

Richard Spear, Managing Director at ACT, said: "We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our learners and partner employers. Their commitment to learning is shown in the work they do each day.

“The Apprenticeship Awards Cymru are a great opportunity to recognise just some of the individuals that make up the broad spectrum of those undertaking an apprenticeship.

“Our learners come from many diverse backgrounds, at different stages of their career and showcase a wide variety of sectors – anyone can learn a new skill, at any time of life, and it’s fantastic to see so many of our learners and partners representing us at the awards. Good luck, we can’t wait for the ceremony in March.”
